Traffic Boosting Techniques

boost traffic

As a business owner, you know that traffic is a good thing in terms of marketing.  The term “traffic” refers to your website visitors.  The more visitors, the higher likelihood you have of a conversion.  While having lots of organic traffic is a great situation, many new business owners might have trouble getting those visitor numbers to climb.

The good news is that there are many things you can do to boost your traffic – both on and off your site – to encourage visitors to your site.  And getting them there is the hardest part of the process.  Once they’ve had a chance to read your blog, check out your products, and sign up for your newsletter, they’ll be hooked for life, but first, you need to get them there.  But how?

On-site Traffic Boosting Techniques

You may think that completely revamping your site is the best way to drive traffic to your site.  That may or may not be true, depending on how your site looks and works now.  Any time is a good time to review the UX and UI of your site, and it can’t hurt to check your links frequently.  But a complete revamp isn’t always necessary.

Instead, start small.  Like, snippets small.  If the term is unfamiliar, we’ve got a few articles about what snippets are and how they work.  Rich snippets exist in the HTML coding to help guide search engines to your site. Featured snippets are those short answers you find when searching for something really specific.

Snippet bait, on the other hand, is something you can tweak from time to time to make sure you’re drawing in the right audience.  You can put snippet bait in your content by adding a summary paragraph at the beginning.  You can incorporate long-tail keywords in your headings, lists, and tables.

Snippet bait is typically 40-60 words of information that Google bots can find quickly and return easily to people searching for those terms, keywords, or general information.  When Google returns your snippet, people are going to be far more likely to click on your link to your website to learn more from you.

Content Revamping

Another trick to boost traffic to your site is to update old blog posts.  This is a good idea for many reasons:

  • You’ll keep your content relevant and evergreen.  Things change rapidly in this world, so the instructions you published in 2017 might not be correct anymore.  And your opinion of a certain industry tool or subject might change over time.  Don’t fall victim to historical inaccuracies!
  • Any links you have to that content will now lead to accurate information.  Have you ever “clicked here to learn more,” only to find yourself looking at living history?  Make sure readers have the right idea all the time.
  • When you update your blog content, you have a reason to update your social media accounts.  This gets people excited to visit your site.  Encourage them to share.  Then even more people are on your site.
  • You can even celebrate these updates via your newsletter.  “If you were with us in 2017, you might remember this.  Check out the site now to learn how 2020 has changed our perspective!”

Traffic Boosting Techniques from The Outside

More often than not, it’s what you do offsite that reels in visitors.  You’re likely aware of the power of advertising, whether it be via Facebook ads or other venues.  Social media is also another place where you need to share quality content that draws attention.

But did you know that you can use these sites to boost your reputation?  You may not feel like replying to comments, especially when someone says something bizarre in response to your social media posts.  In fact, interacting with your audience is a great way to establish yourself as a credible source, and get people excited about your brand.

The more excited your social media audience is, the more likely they’ll share posts.  That means a higher traffic rate, and those coveted conversions.  Remember, you can use analytics to check which posts perform the best, which will help you discover what your audience likes so you can follow their trends.

Link from Authority Sites

Another place where you can drum up a solid reputation as a trusted authority is on forums.  Quora, Reddit, Yahoo Answers, Help A Reporter Out (HARO), and more are all sites where you can answer questions real people have about issues related to your niche.

Your intelligent, concise, well-considered answers will help you establish your knowledge as well as your relatability.  You can often use the opportunity to backlink to your site, as well, giving folks the chance to learn more… and to enter the sales funnel.

Guest Posting

Guest posting is a more extended version of participating on forums, but a great way to gain a reputation as an expert and entice more organic traffic to your site.  Guest posting is a term for providing credited blog content for another website.  Your engaging, knowledgeable content is published on another site, along with your name and a short bio.  Usually, you can add a link to your business site, as well.  You can read more information about guest posting in this page.

This technique is extremely beneficial for driving traffic, as you’ll be able to have a captive audience that you might not otherwise reach.  You’ll have the opportunity to establish yourself as a trusted authority to these new individuals, and attract attention from those looking to learn more.

The proverbial pendulum swings both ways, too.  Featuring guest posts on your blog is a great way to encourage devoted audiences of a particular site to stop by yours. It will also provide your readers with some fresh content that might provide a different voice or point of view.

Social Media

Another fun feature of guest posts is that both parties can create excitement via social media.  “Today’s guest blogger is an expert in the field of ____” . “If you haven’t read the blog in awhile, today is the day to pick it back up, as we feature an exclusive post from (name)”.  Both the guest writer and the host site can share details about this collaboration, engaging double the audience at once.

Conclusion

When it comes to boosting traffic to your business website, don’t despair.  Instead, get creative.  Be mindful of your keywords.  Add summaries to help search bots find you.  Take a look back at older blog posts and make them relevant again.  Step outside your site, too, to take full advantage of the World Wide Web.  Participate in forums, and network with others entrepreneurs to create and host guest posts.

The more people you reach, the more visitors you have.  And with more visitors comes a higher rate of conversions!
